1. Why do we use the term “socio-cultural determinants of access to healthcare” and not “interculturality”?
The term “interculturality” is a concept that covers many dimensions. We have chosen to focus on the issue of access to healthcare, which lies at the heart of MDM’s concerns. Our work is therefore centred on studying the socio-cultural determinants of access to healthcare.
2. How can I raise awareness on this topic amongst my colleagues?
The AH-SCD group will make awareness-raising tools available to those who are interested by the end of the year.
Furthermore, for those amongst you based in France , you can also request a member of our group to visit your work place and conduct a session on this issue at your convenience.
3. Can I take part in a training course or awareness-raising session on SCD?
Yes, a request from your institution or delegation can be addressed to the working group as soon as you have formed a group of around twenty people.
However, for budgetary reasons, these courses and sessions will only take place in France , unless the facilitator’s transport costs are covered.
For members of Médecins du Monde, the Mission Days or coordinators’ week provide an opportunity to take part in the workshops organised during the week by the AH-SCD group.
4. Are there any communication aids on the SCD of access to healthcare?
You can introduce this project and promote the SCD of access to healthcare by downloading the communication aids from this blog.
5. What are the priority issues for the AH-SCD group anthropologist and can she support us in the field?
Magali Bouchon , the consultant anthropologist for the MDM Operations Technical Support Unit, is working on developing methodological and thematic tools (amongst which will be a focus group module, a diagnostic module, a module on the topic of “migrants”, a module on the topic of “Violence against Women”, etc.). Your feedback on these tools is essential in order to adapt them better to your realities in the field. Magali Bouchon cannot, however, come and provide direct support in the field.
6. What should I do if I need support from an anthropologist for my project?
The AH-SCD working group can help you identify an anthropologist who can facilitate awareness-raising workshops for your teams and carry out studies in your location.
We strongly advise you to plan in your provisional budget for the costs linked to an anthropologist’s contributions and support during the key stages of your project’s development. Nevertheless, if you have not taken this step, we can point you towards anthropologists willing to work on a volunteer basis, subject to their availability.
7. Can I be part of the AH-SCD group?
The AH-SCD group is open to anyone wishing to take part in this venture. The project is expanding, with increasing numbers of people involved. All are welcome!
8. How to publish documents on the AH-SCD blog.
Do you have a document you would like to share with everyone? You can post your comments under some of the headings, and propose articles, reports and other tools. However, if you need more details, please do not hesitate to contact us at the following address: dsc@medecinsdumonde.net
